Dr. Masson used Apple’s headset as a logistics and organizational tool for several minimally invasive spine surgeries using eXeX software, according to a Feb. 6 news release. Surgical staff used the technology to access surgical setup and procedural guides in the OR.

“The eXeX platform, enhanced by artificial intelligence, is designed not as a medical device but as an organizational and logistics tool,” Dr. Masson said in the release. “It aims to streamline the management of tens of thousands of items, including equipment, tools, technologies, consumables, implants and surgical products. As the surgeon, it is invisible to me, except for the extreme calm, quiet and surreal effortlessness of the predictable, undistracted workflow of my team.”

Dr. Masson has more than 36 years of experience in spine and neurosurgery. He is the founder of the Orlando, Fla.-based Masson Spine Institute and medical director of the NeuroSpine Center of Excellence at Orlando Health-Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Fla. He has completed more than 13,000 surgeries and trained more than 1,500 surgeons.
