The code, which went into effect Oct. 1, covers dysfunction of the multifidus muscles in the lumbar region. Mainstay Medical’s flagship device is ReActiv8, an implantable spinal cord stimulator to address chronic lower back pain.

“The CDC has recognized multifidus muscle dysfunction as a prominent cause of chronic low back pain and is now providing clinicians a clearer pathway to specifically diagnose this condition,” Jason Hannon, CEO of Mainstay Medical, said in the release. “Multifidus dysfunction is a highly specific disease state that does not respond to palliative forms of stimulation, and we are excited that this new code provides for clear reflection of the underlying disease state.”

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
