Here are five highlights:
1. The wing expands 41,361 square feet and rises two stories.
2. There are five operating rooms, in which typical surgeries will include brain tumor removals, aneurysm treatment, spine surgeries and neck fusions.
3. Brad Cushing, MD, chairman of surgery at Maine Medical, said they expanded the center on account of more specialties needing operating space.
4. Surgeons will start performing surgeries in the new wing on Oct. 19.
5. An operating room for cardiac advanced surgeries is also in the works.
