The average cost for lumbar spinal fusions in the 10 largest metropolitan cities are oftentimes less than in the 10 smallest metropolitan cities, as ranked by the U.S. Census Bureau based on population.

Lumbar spinal fusion prices were calculated by data from Healthcare Bluebook based on the amount health plans pay on claims and include facility services assuming three day admissions, physician services fees and anesthesia. The states are listed by largest to smallest for the largest cities and smallest to largest for the smallest cities.
