In the decision, Ohio Supreme Court ruled the cutoff date to file medical malpractice lawsuits can be extended if a physician fled the state within the four-year lawsuit deadline, the report said.
Dr. Durrani fled to Pakistan in 2013 after he was charged with performing unnecessary surgeries on more than 500 patients. He allegedly used the product, PureGen, outside of approved clinical use. Dr. Durrani practiced at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and West Chester Hospital where he also allegedly charged Medicare millions of dollars fraudulently.
In February, a jury verdict ordered Dr. Durrani to pay nearly $13 million total to two women on whom he allegedly performed unnecessary procedures.
