4 spine, orthopedic surgery 'firsts' in November

Becker's Spine Review reported on four first-time surgical cases that were completed in November.

1. Antonia Chen, MD, a surgeon at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, performed the nation's first total knee replacement with Pixee Medical's Knee+ augmented reality system, the company said in a Nov. 2 news release.

2. The first clinical cases with Spinal Elements' Lucent 3D-printed lumbar interbody system were completed at Hawaii Pacific Health in Honolulu and Youngstown Orthopedics Associates in Canfield, Ohio.

3. Chad Prusmack, MD, completed the first artificial disc replacement on an active NHL player Nov. 12. Vegas Golden Knights player Jack Eichel had the nearly 75 minute surgery at Rocky Mountain Spine Clinic in Denver.

4. James Womack, MD, performed Missouri's first total knee replacement with Think Surgical's second-generation TSolution One robot Nov. 23.
