From an entrepreneur to an advocate, here are eight spine and orthopedic surgeons who were honored in the third quarter of 2021:

1. Paul Detwiler, MD, received the Advocate of the Year Award from the Texas Healthcare Trustees.

2. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons awarded three surgeons. Dave Atkin, MD, received the 2021 Humanitarian Award; Joseph Zuckerman, MD, received the 2021 William W. Tipton Jr., MD, Leadership Award and Lisa Lattanza, MD, received the 2021 Diversity Award.

3. After more than 50 years practicing as an orthopedic surgeon, an endowed chair has been established at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge to honor David Drez Jr., MD.

4. Benjamin Domb, MD, founder and medical director of the American Hip Institute, has received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2021 Midwest Award.

5. The American Association of Neurological Surgeons named Dr. BK Misra as the recipient of its International Lifetime Achievement Award.

6. Kristaps Keggi, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and researcher at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., was inducted into the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame.
