Spinal neurosurgeon John Davis, IV, MD, has been appointed to the Mississippi State Board of Health by Gov. Tate Reeves.

Dr. Davis, a founding partner of Flowood, Miss.-based NewSouth NeuroSpine, will complete the six-year term of Ed Barham, MD, a Jackson-based radiologist who died earlier this year.

"I am committed to sound, science-based policy with efficient execution, and I look forward to addressing important matters that impact the health and lives of Mississippians," Dr. Davis said in a May 25 news release.

Dr. Davis is a member of the Mississippi Workers' Compensation Commission Advisory Council and a peer reviewer for World Neurosurgery. He is also past-president of the Mississippi Neurological Society and former chief of medical staff at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood.

He holds a master's degree in health finance and management from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, according to his practice's website.
