Neurosurgeon to forfeit nearly $623K, gets prison time for taking kickbacks

A neurosurgeon among the 15 convicted in the Pacific Hospital kickback scheme was sentenced to 15 months in prison May 22, according to the Sierra Sun Times.

Jeffrey David Gross, MD, was ordered to pay back $622,936 he received in kickbacks and sentenced to more than a year in prison for accepting payments in exchange for referrals to Long Beach, Calif.-based Pacific Hospital.

He also contracted with the hospital to receive $5,000 each time he used implants from a company formed by the hospital's owner, Michael Drobot.
