From the first implantation of a new limb lengthening device to the first physician to offer awake spinal fusion at his practice, here are the latest spine surgeons making the news:

Muhammad Abd-El-Barr, MD, PhD, was the first surgeon to offer awake spinal fusion to patients at Duke Spine Center in Durham, N.C.

Joseph Cox, MD, performed a novel procedure called the prone transpsoas technique, which implants a spacer between the vertebrae to improve space for the nerve roots.

Dror Paley, MD, was the first surgeon to use NuVasive's Precice Plating system designed for complex limb reconstruction procedures.

Spinal neurosurgeon Todd Lanman, MD, will conduct an online course on motion preservation during the 2nd Annual Advances in Motion Preservation.

Cuyuna Regional Medical Center - Crosby (Minn.) recruited James Stokman, MD, to begin a practice as the area's only spine surgeon.

Georgia Bone & Joint, with locations in Newnan and Peachtree City, added David Love, MD, to its spine team.
