Drs. William Choi, Fred Harris & more: 8 spine surgeons making headlines

Spine

Here are eight spine and neurosurgeons making the news this week:

Fred Harris, MD, of Minneapolis-based Twin Cities Orthopedics spoke to Becker's Spine Review about the importance of autonomy, consolidation in healthcare and value-based programs in spine.

Colorado neurosurgeon William Choi, MD, and three companies he owned, including Nexus Spine and 4D Spine, agreed to pay $2.35 million to resolve anti-kickback and False Claims Act violation allegations.

Lawyers for Wilson Asfora, MD, a former spine surgeon with Sioux Falls-based Sanford Health, are seeking to dismiss a kickback case on the grounds that the surgeon did not violate federal anti-kickback laws when he used devices from two companies he owned.

Dominic Kleinhenz, MD, was reportedly the first spine surgeon in Rhode Island to implant the M6-C artificial cervical disc in a patient suffering from cervical disc degeneration.

Northern Rockies Orthopaedics in Missoula, Mont., onboarded Joel Torretti, MD.

James Chappuis, MD, and Christian Zimmerman, MD, discussed ancillary services they offer at their practices and what services they are planning to add in the future.

Missoula (Mont.) Bone & Joint added Zackery Witte, MD, to its practice.
