South Shore Health's NeuroSpine Center was named a Blue Distinction Center+ for spine surgery by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

Four key notes:

1. South Shore NeuroSpine in South Weymouth, Mass., gained the designation for demonstrating quality and safety in cervical and lumbar fusion, cervical laminectomy, and lumbar laminectomy and discectomy procedures.

2. The center also had fewer patient complications and readmissions than other facilities.

3. Stephen Johnson, MD, serves as South Shore Health's director of neurosurgery.

4. Facilities must meet established quality measures to be considered for designation as a Blue Distinction Center+.
