3 things to know about neurosurgeon salary growth & hospital revenue generated

Three reports showed increased demand and pay for neurosurgeons this year:

1. Neurosurgeons were the No. 1 highest paid specialists ranked by Doximity's U.S. Physician Employment report, earning $616,823 in 2019.

2. According to physician search firm Merritt Hawkins' 2019 review of advanced practitioner recruiting incentives, neurosurgeons were the No. 8 most recruited specialty by total search assignments.]

3. Neurosurgery remains a high earning specialty for hospitals, according to the 2019 inpatient/outpatient revenue survey from Merritt Hawkins. Neurosurgeons came in the No. 4 spot for the highest revenue generating specialties, generating $3,437,500 for hospitals on average. The amount of revenue neurosurgeons generated rose 40 percent from 2016's number at $2,445,810.
