7 hospitals expanding spine, neurosurgery programs

Here are seven hospitals expanding spine and neurosurgery programs in the past month.

St. Louis-based Barnes-Jewish Hospital opened a its neuro-critical care unit, which features 44 beds. The facility features 24 private ICU rooms and is intended for patients recovering from neurosurgery or conditions like stroke or epilepsy.

Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City, Ill., established a new orthopedic spine program. The Spine Center at GRMC treats a variety of spine conditions including cervical and lumbar pathology, fractures, degeneration, deformity and scoliosis.

Kettering Health Network Troy (Ohio) Hospital opened a new medical office, which will soon offer specialty spine and orthopedic care. It features 28 inpatient beds, an emergency room, ICU, lab and imaging, surgery and cardiac testing.

Chicago-based Northwestern Memorial Hospital launched the Northwestern Medicine Hispanic Brain and Spine Tumor Program. The program aims to improve access to neurosurgical care for the Hispanic community by eliminating cultural and linguistic barriers.

Fairfield (Ohio) Hospital, as part of Cincinnati-based Mercy Health, opened its renovated Outpatient Rehabilitation and Therapy center. It provides care for a range of services including orthopedic, sports medicine and neuro rehab.

Memorial Hermann The Woodlands (Texas) Medical Center opened a dedicated Neurosciences Comprehensive Patient Care Unit to centralize its 24/7 neurological care offerings. The neurological unit includes a 12-bed neuro-intensive care unit with specially designed beds for spine injuries.

Greenport, N.Y.-based Eastern Long Island Hospital and Stony Brook (N.Y.) Medicine merged with the Greenport center now known as Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital. The hospital seeks to make neurology and orthopedic services available locally and decrease the distance patients need to travel for care.
