Mohammed Shamji, a former professor and neurosurgeon at the University of Toronto, was sentenced to life in prison after murdering his wife, Elana Fric-Shamji, MD, reports U of T newspaper The Varsity.
Dr. Fric-Shamji was a family physician and a professor at the University of Toronto.
Mr. Shamji pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison on May 9, with eligibility to appeal for parole in 14 years.
Dr. Fric-Shamji was murdered on November 30, 2016, which was two days after she filed for a divorce.
Their 14-year-old daughter was a key witness in the case but did not have to testify because Mr. Shamji pleaded guilty.
The court ordered that Mr. Shamji have no contact with his three children without prior consent.
