Dr. Kevin Foley joins 3D imaging startup: 4 things to know

Neurosurgeon Kevn T. Foley, MD, has joined Salt Lake City-based 3D imaging startup nView Medical as board director and investor.

Four things to know:

1. nView Medical uses artificial intelligence image creation formulas that combine prior information with real-time data collected during surgery to cut imaging time and minimize X-ray radiation.

2. Dr. Foley is a professor of neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery and biomedical engineering at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tenn., and is actively involved in medical device development and research in minimally invasive spine surgery, disc regeneration and clinical outcomes.

3. He is also director of the spine fellowship program for the University of Tennessee department of neurosurgery in Knoxville and chairman of the board and medical director for the Medical Education & Research Institute in Memphis, Tenn.

4. Dr. Foley was granted over 150 patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, inventing many of the tools that have enabled modern minimally invasive spine surgery, and won the American Association of Neurological Surgeons' Cushing Award for Technical Excellence and Innovation in Neurosurgery.
