Here, Dr. Burger shares her thoughts on the biggest technology trends in spine today.

Question: Which orthopedic device trends and technologies do you see making the biggest impact long term? What do you think is just a fad?

Dr. Evalina Burger: Personalized medicine is really on the cutting edge. With current technology we should be able to make implants for patients according to their measurements.

Q: How do you ensure you're staying on the cutting-edge of your surgical practice while also being mindful of achieving value-based outcomes for your patients?

EB: Attending conferences that provide value and being a reviewer for journals. Furthermore, tracking my patients for at least two to five years, which is time consuming but only way to know what you are adding or not.

Q: What is your best advice for young entrepreneurial surgeons with an idea to improve implants, instruments or technology used to improve the care of orthopedic patients?

EB: Partner with a reputable group of people and collaborate with engineers and like-minded colleagues.
