For the first six months of 2018, North Carolina has seen a boon of spine surgeons and neurosurgeons moving their practices to the state. Several other states report two or three spine-focused surgeons moving there in the past six months.

 Here is a breakdown of where the spine surgeons are moving, by state.

Arkansas

North Little Rock-based Arkansas Surgical Hospital welcomed Phillip Porcelli, DO.

Neurosurgeons James Arthur, MD, and Justin Dowdy, MD, joined CHI St. Vincent in Hot Springs, Ark.

 

California

Sacramento, Calif.-based UC Davis Health welcomed Griffith Harsh IV, MD, to its team as neurosurgery department chief.

Redding, Calif.-based Shasta Orthopaedics welcomed neurosurgeon Kimberly Page, MD.

Colorado

Kirk Clifford, MD, and James Gebhard, MD, joined Community Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo.

 

Connecticut

The Norwich, Conn.-based William W. Backus Hospital welcomed interventional spine specialist Gaurav Kapur, MD.

 

Florida

Howard Sharf, MD, joined Sarasota (Fla.) Orthopedic Associates.

Roderick Claybrooks, MD, joined Tampa, Fla.-based BioSpine Institute.

 

Georgia

Justin S. Whitlow, MD, joined Brunswick-based Southeast Georgia Physician Associates-Neurosciences.

 

Kansas

Spine surgeon Max Franco De Carvalho, MD, joined HaysMed of the University of Kansas Health System in Hays.

 

Maine

Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine, welcomed Nicolas Arredondo, MD, to its staff at Maine Spine Surgery.

 

Nevada

Vladimir Sinkov, MD, left his practice at New Hampshire Orthopedic Center and will begin practicing at Nevada Orthopedic and Spine Center on Sept. 1, concentrating on minimally invasive spine surgery and robotics.

 

New Jersey

Former Louisiana State University Health Shreveport department of neurosurgery Chairman Anil Nanda, MD, left the hospital to join Rutgers New Jersey School of Medicine in Newark.

 

New York

Binghamton, N.Y.-based UHS Health System welcomed Adesh Tandon, MD, to their neurosurgery department.

 

North Carolina

Durham, N.C.-based Duke Health named Christopher I. Shaffrey, MD, chief of the Duke Spine Division, effective Sept. 1.

Syracuse, N.Y.-based Crouse Hospital surgeon Eric Deshaies, MD, left the hospital to direct a spine program in Charlotte, N.C.
Hickory, N.C.-based Frye Regional Medical Center hired neurosurgeon Akram Mahmoud, DO.

Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville, N.C., welcomed Jordan Glaser, MD, to its team.

Jeffrey Beecher, DO, joined Wilmington, N.C.-based Atlantic Neurosurgical & Spine Specialists.

 

North Dakota

Spine surgeon Jason Kelly, MD, joined Fargo, N.D.-based Essentia Health-32nd Avenue Clinic.

 

Ohio

Paul Eichenseer, DO, will join OrthoNeuro in Columbus August 1.

 

Pennsylvania

Orthopedic spine surgeon Keith Wilkey, MD, joined Bradford (Pa.) Regional Medical Center.

 

Texas

The Laredo (Texas) Medical Center welcomed neurosurgeon Scott Robertson, MD, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

 

Washington

Kirkland, Wash.-based EvergreenHealth Spine and Neurosurgical Care added Emun Abdu, MD, to the team.

 

Wisconsin

Mark Dekutoski, MD, joined the Marshfield Clinic Eau Claire (Wis.) Center's orthopedic surgery department.
