Spine surgeons' favorite summertime activities

Spine

Three spine surgeons discuss summertime activities they enjoy most.

Ask Spine Surgeons is a weekly series of questions posed to spine surgeons around the country about clinical, business and policy issues affecting spine care. We invite all spine surgeon and specialist responses.

Next week's question: What does the future hold for independent physician practices?

Please send responses to Anuja Vaidya at avaidya@beckershealthcare.com by Wednesday, June 13, at 5 p.m. CST.

Question: What are your favorite summertime activities that help you de-stress?

Brian R. Gantwerker, MD. Founder of the Craniospinal Center of Los Angeles: In the summertime, we take our son to one of the small local water parks and unwind. Going for a late afternoon bike ride along the boardwalk and grabbing dinner at one of the beachside cafes. I also make my way back to Chicago and catch a game at Wrigley Field.

Richard Kube, MD. Founder and CEO of Prairie Spine & Pain Institute (Peoria, Ill.): With the kids out of school, family time is a big one. We spend time outdoors, typically swimming and [playing] soccer in our family. The grill and smoker are also heavily used. Generally, we take a laid-back approach and make sure to just be together.

Vladimir Sinkov, MD. Spine Surgeon at New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center (Nashua): Summertime is usually not the most stressful season anyway, but I do enjoy spending time with the family, hiking, grilling, gardening and traveling.
