Here are five things to know:

1. Dr. Bay was the 13th woman to become board-certified to practice neurosurgery in the U.S. She received board certification in 1983.

2. She specialized in brain tumors, skull base surgery and complex spine surgery.

3. Dr. Bay received her medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus and underwent neurological surgery fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic Educational Foundation.

4. Dr. Bay was the first female president of the Columbus-based Riverside Methodist medical staff and served on the Cleveland Clinic Foundation staff, where she was head of the neuro-oncology section and assistant director of the Office of Professional Staff Affairs.

5. She served as vice president and physician lead for the Columbus-based OhioHealth Neuroscience program.
