Tucson tries to bring in patients from Mexico for specialist care: 4 insights

The Tucson (Ariz.) Health Association is seeking to attract patients from Mexico for specialized care, including neurosurgery, according to Fronteras.  

Here are four things to know.

1. Comprised of four area hospitals and Visit Tucson, the Tucson Health Association provides concierge services for medical tourists. The association also brings physicians from northern Mexico to meet counterparts in Tucson.

2. The association invested $250,000 over the past year and plans to make the same investment annually.

3. According to Josef Woodman, CEO of Patients Beyond Borders, the inbound medical tourism sector represents about $9 billion annually across the country.

4. The Tucson Health Association faces competition for international specialist care from Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic, as well as new medical tourism initiatives in San Diego and Las Vegas.
