AAOS names Dr. Alan Hilibrand treasurer-elect: 5 things to know

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons named Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute's Alan Hilibrand, MD, treasurer-elect of the board of directors.

 

Here are five things to know:

 

1. In his new role, Dr. Hilibrand will serve as chair and one of three voting members of the AAOS Finance Committee, which manages the Academy's fiscal health. AAOS has more than 38,000 members around the world.

 

2. Dr. Hilibrand will begin his three-year commitment as treasurer of the organization in 2019.

 

3. Throughout his career, Dr. Hilibrand has served in several leadership roles for AAOS, including chair of the communications cabinet, and spent time on the AAOS Board for Specialty Societies Presidential Line as a representative for the Cervical Spine Research Society. He also participated in the 2005 class of the AAOS Leadership Fellows.

 

4. Dr. Hilibrand currently serves as vice chairman of academic affairs and faculty development for the orthopedic surgery department at the Rothman Institute and Sidney Kimmel Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He is also the co-director of spinal surgery and director of the spine fellowship at Rothman.

 

5. Dr. Hilibrand earned his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn., and completed his fellowship in spinal cord injury at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
