Here are eight spine surgeons and neurosurgeons who made headlines this week.

Stanford (Calif.) University School of Medicine appointed Odette Harris, MD, as a neurosurgery professor. Dr. Harris is the first female African-American neurosurgery professor at Stanford.

 

Jocelyn Idema, DO, performed one of the first implants of Boston Scientific's new Spectra WaveWriter Spinal Cord Stimulator System in Pennsylvania.

 

Charles Wilson, MD, 88, UC San Francisco professor emeritus, died from natural causes.

 

Christopher M. Bono, MD, will be the fourth editor in chief of The Spine Journal.

 

Olawale Sulaiman, MD, PhD, is a neurosurgeon and the system chairman of the neurosurgery department at Ochsner Health System in New Orleans who also travels to Nigeria every month to perform free surgery.

 

Jean-Pierre Mobasser, MD, was elected to serve as president of Indianapolis-based Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine. He is the third president of the practice.

 

Orthopedic spine surgeon Keith Wilkey, MD, will join Bradford (Pa.) Regional Medical Center, Olean (N.Y.) General Hospital and the Foothills Medical Group, effective March 26.

 

Intraoperative neuromonitoring services provider Assure Holdings added Jeffrey Ratusznik, MD, to its Texas network.
