A study investigated the knowledge of adult spine deformity among orthopedic spine surgeons.
Researchers sent a survey to North America Spine Society members, testing level of spine surgery training, practice experience and spinal deformity knowledge base. The study included responses from 413 orthopedic spine surgeons.

1. The study revealed an overall correct-answer rate of 69 percent.
2. Those surgeons in practice for fewer than 10 years had a higher correct-answer rate (74 percent), compared to those in practice for 10-plus years (67 percent).
3. The surgeons who had practices with 75 percent or more committed to spine demonstrated a higher overall correct rate.
4. The researchers found an association between spine fellowships and a higher overall correct-answer rate.
5. Researchers concluded the industry should promote an "ongoing emphasis on spine deformity education."
