Stryker completes Novadaq Technologies acquisition
After announcing plans to purchase Novadaq Technologies in June, Stryker finalized its acquisition for $701 million. Novadaq Technologies develops fluorescent imaging technology for blood flow visualization in vessels and tissue perfusion related to cardiac, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, plastic, microsurgical and reconstructive procedures. In the agreement, Stryker paid $11.75 per share, with a net purchasing price of $654 million and nearly $47 million cash, totaling approximately $701 million.

Medtronic to study Infuse in PLF, TLIF spine surgeries in new pilot trials
Medtronic launched new long-term clinical studies to collect prospective data on posterolateral fusion and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion procedures using Infuse Bone Graft. Surgeons used Infuse for years to promote fusion, especially in difficult-to-fuse situations. The global study aims to expand the clinical understanding of Infuse and evaluate efficacy, safety and health economic outcomes for PLF and TLIF. Read more about the trials here.

Trump cuts ACA enrollment outreach funding to $10M
The Trump administration slashed funding to ACA sign up outreach and advertising from $100 million to $10 million, according to The Hill. Under the law, the administration will spend some money on signing people up for healthcare plans; however, administration cut funding from the previous year by 90 percent.

Joimax opens endoscopic spine surgery training and education center in California
Joimax opened its new Training and Education Center in Irvine, Calif. The company will hold its first workshop there Sept. 8 and Sept. 9. The demand for Joimax's endoscopic procedures in spine surgery has increased this year, after CMS released a new CPT reimbursement code for endoscopic spine procedures Jan. 1.

New Neurosurgery study on lifetime hospitalization costs for thoracic SCI patients
Neurosurgery published a new article, "Relationship of American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale Grade to Post-injury Hospitalization and Costs in Thoracic Spinal Cord Injury." The article outlines the estimated lifetime economic costs of hospitalizations related to the American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale grade. Read about the study here.

NuVasive receives FDA clearance for redesigned Magec system
NuVasive received FDA clearance for its redesigned Magec system including its Reline Small Stature system. The redesigned system includes features to provide ease of use for physicians and make surgical outcomes more reproducible.

Jason Hannon to serve as new Mainstay Medical CEO
Jason Hannon will take the helm of Ireland-based Mainstay Medical Oct. 9, replacing current CEO Peter Crosby, who is retiring. Mr. Hannon will also serve as a director, effective Oct. 9. Mainstay Medical develops ReActiv8, an implantable restorative neurostimulation system.

Orthopaedic & Neurosurgery Specialists opens new center
The Orthopaedic and Neurosurgery Specialists in Greenwich, Conn., opened a new medical office and physical therapy center in Westchester County, N.Y. The 15,000-square-foot medical office includes 14 exam rooms, digital X-rays, ultrasounds, electromyography and an advanced physical and hand therapy center. Orthopaedic and Neurosurgery Specialists provides various services and treatments for musculoskeletal conditions and injuries, sports medicine, minimally invasive orthopedics, spine and brain surgery, joint replacement and trauma.
