Zimmer Biomet recalls SpF PLUS-Mini, SpF XL IIb implantable spinal fusion stimulators
Zimmer Biomet recalled its SpF PLUS-Mini and SpF XL IIb implantable spinal fusion stimulators because of higher than allowed levels of potential harmful chemicals. In a release, the FDA said the chemicals could be toxic to tissues and organs. Zimmer Biomet distributed the recalled devices between March 28, 2017 and April 6, 2017, and manufactured the devices between Oct. 11, 2016 and Jan. 18, 2017. The company sent a notice to all affected customers.

Millennial physicians opting out of the Hippocratic Oath in favor of alternatives
A poll conducted by Medscape shows the popularity of the Hippocratic Oath, an optional vow to uphold certain ethical standards, is waning in favor of alternative oaths, or no oath at all. Seventy percent of physicians ages 65 and older said the Hippocratic Oath was very meaningful to them, compared to 39 percent of physicians under age 34. Read more from the poll here.

Main Line Health to purchase ownership in Rothman Institute, NueHealth, Jefferson Health-owned surgical hospital
The three owners of Bryn Mawr, Pa.-based Physicians Care Surgical Hospital — Philadelphia-based Rothman Institute, NueHealth and Jefferson Health — plan to bring Main Line Health into the fold. Main Line Health will now have an ownership stake in the 30,000-square-foot, short stay surgical hospital. The joint venture facility will continue to provide orthopedic, pain management, ophthalmic and gynecologic care, in addition to other specialties.

Life Spine celebrates 424% boost in biologics product line in past fiscal year
Huntley, Ill.-based Life Spine reported record revenue growth of 424 percent in the past fiscal year for its biologics product line. The biologics product line, OSTEO-LINK Demineralized Bone Matrix, includes putty, strips, cubes and fillers. Life Spine anticipates more growth with the introduction of its OSTEO-LINK Hydratable ICM and MARROW CELLUTION Bone Marrow Harvesting System.

Vertera Spine raises $3M from 29 investors
Atlanta-based Vertera Spine raised $3 million in an equity offering, exchanging equity for a minimum $2,000 investment from 29 investors. The company focuses on spinal technologies using the patented porous PEEK technology.
