Here are 11 spine surgeons who made the news this week:

Neurosurgeon Michael Haglund, MD, PhD, of Durham, N.C.-based Duke University Hospital neurosurgeons led a group of Durham Nativity School students on a medical trip to Uganda.

 

Choll Kim, MD, of the Spine Institute of Diego, and Robert Eastlack, MD, a spine surgeon in San Diego within Scripps Clinic's division of orthopedic surgery reflected on their respective approaches and the many components involved in successfully performing lateral spine surgery.  

 

Kirkland, Wash.-based EvergreenHealth welcomed Peter Nora, MD, to the system.

 

Kern Singh, MD, of Chicago-based Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, Vladimir Sinkov, MD, of Nashua-based New Hampshire Orthopaedic Center, Payam Farjoodi, MD, of Fountain Valley, Calif.-based Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center, Thomas A. McNally, MD, of Chicago Spine Center at Weiss Memorial Hospital and Brian R. Gantwerker, MD, of the Craniospinal Center of Los Angeles weighed in on techniques they believe are no longer useful for surgery.

 

Frank Phillips, MD, co-founder of the Minimally Invasive Spine Institute at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush in Chicago discussed the future of spine in ASCs and where the biggest opportunities for outpatient spine will be in the next five years.

 

Alexander Lenard MD, of St. Thomas-based Comprehensive Orthopaedic Global performed the Virgin Islands' first outpatient spine procedure.
