Spine

Researchers at University of Queensland and Princess Alexandra Hospital, both based in Australia, are jumpstarting a clinical trial for spinal cord injury treatment, according to Medical Xpress.

Here are four things to know:

1. The study will test a new anti-inflammatory drug, designed to subdue tissue damage within hours of injury.

2. Already tested in animals, the intravenous immunoglobulin therapy decreased inflammation and enhanced spinal cord injury recovery.

3. Researchers plan to conduct the trial for three years with a total of 20 participants.

4. Princess Alexandra Hospital serves as the University of Queensland's spinal injury care center.
