Here are 17 spine surgeons and neurosurgeons that joined new organizations or received promotions in September.

Raleigh (N.C.) Orthopaedic Clinic welcomed Venu M. Nemani, MD, PhD, to its team. He treats all spinal conditions in adult and pediatric patients, with a special interest in the cervical spine and spinal deformities.

 

The Oklahoma City VA Medical Center welcomed Basheer Shakir, MD, as neurosurgery chief. Dr. Shakir received his medical degree from University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City.

 

Grant D. Shifflett, MD, joined Marina Del Rey, Calif.-based DISC Sports & Spine Center. He recently completed his spine fellowship at Chicago-based Rush University.

 

Frank H. Valone III, MD, will join California Pacific Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in San Francisco. He specializes in cervical spine surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery and reconstructive spine surgery.

 

Board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon Robert Hart, MD, will serve as Seattle-based Swedish Neuroscience Institute's new director of spinal deformities.

 

John Ogden, MD, joined Genesis Neurosurgery Group in Zanesville, Ohio. He underwent his residency at Ohio State University in Columbus.

 

UC Health Headache and Facial Pain Center in Cincinnati welcomed Brinder Vij, MD, to its team. Certified in headache medicine, Dr. Vij specializes in migraine management, IV infusions and interventional treatments.

 

Memorial Hermann Mischer Neuroscience Institute and McGovern Medical School at UT Health, both headquartered in Houston, welcomed Justin P. Morgan, MD, to the team. He specializes in electromyography and nerve conduction studies as well as electroencephalography and intraoperative monitoring.

 

Jonathan Falakassa, MD, joined Southern California Orthopedic Institute in Van Nuys. Dr. Falakassa completed his fellowship in spine surgery at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif.

 

Dakota Dunes, S.D.-based CNOS welcomed neurosurgeon Jason Przybylo, MD. He earned his medical degree from Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago.

 

Maywood, Ill.-based Loyola Medicine welcomed spine surgeon G. Alexander Jones, MD. He specializes in treating spinal cord and spinal column tumors as well as performs simple and complex spine surgeries.

 

Spine Team Texas added Neil Patel, MD, to its team. A reviewer for The Global Spine Journal, Dr. Patel has also published articles in Neurosurgery Focus, Journal of Arthroplasty and The Spine Journal.

 

Cleveland Clinic named Michael Steinmetz, MD, chairman of the neurosurgery department.

 

OrthoAtlanta Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Specialists welcomed Henaku K. Yirenkyi, MD. Dr. Yirenkyi treats traumatic spinal injury, sciatica, scoliosis, herniated discs, lumbar spinal stenosis and back pain.

 

Paul Miller, MD, is joining the staff of Montana-based Benefis Orthopedics. He is a member of several professional organizations including the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons and American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics.

 

New York City-based Maimonides Medical Center appointed John K. Houten, MD, the new director of spinal neurosurgery and neurotrauma.

 

Reston (Va.) Hospital Center appointed Jae Y. Lim, MD, of Atlantic Brain & Spine in Fairfax, Va., the new chief of neurosurgery trauma. In his new role, Dr. Lim is boosting neuroscience services at RHC, which became a level 2 trauma center in September.
