Dr. Kimon Bekelis honored with 2 awards at 2016 CNS meeting: 7 highlights

Kimon Bekelis, MD, received two awards at the Congress of Neurological Surgeons Annual Meeting in San Diego.

Here are seven highlights:

 

1. NICO, OsteoMed and Synaptive granted the 2016-2017 CNS Innovation Fellowship award to Dr. Bekelis and two others. This fellowship aids "future neurosurgical educators in pursuit of new training modalities."

 

2. Dr. Bekelis also received the Sam Hassenbusch Young Neurosurgeon's Award for the abstract, "Does Ranking of Surgeons in a Publicly Available Online Platform Correlate with Objective Outcomes?"

 

3. His abstract analyzed the correlation of online publicly reported physician complication rates and actual adverse outcomes of those physicians for posterior lumbar fusion patients.

 

4. Dr. Bekelis is a cerebrovascular and endovascular fellow at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia as well as a health policy instructor at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice in Lebanon, N.H.

 

5. He has written more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and 10 book chapters.

 

6. Dr. Bekelis has also created two software applications highlighting risk and cost predictions for surgical procedures.

 

7. He is the 2016 American College of Surgeons Health Policy Scholar.
