On average, an orthopedic surgeon's average annual income ranges from $159,400 to $305,900 in the United States, according to a Salary Voice report. In the United Kingdom, the average annual salary is £140,000. In Australia, the average annual salary would range from AUD$97,671 to AUD$305,209.

 

Centinel Spine receives FDA clearance of spine device
West Chester, Pa.-based Centinel Spine received FDA clearance for its ALTOS device. The ALTOS is the first FDA-cleared posterior cervical thoracic stabilization system, intended for lateral masses of the cervical spine or the pedicles of the cervical-thoracic spine.

The Medscape Orthopedics Lifestyle Report 2016: Bias and Burnout reported eight statistics on assets and net worth. Thirteen percent of male orthopedic surgeons report their income and assets aren't enough to support their life goals and don't expect them to ever be sufficient; 22 percent of female orthopedic surgeons said the same. Seventy-two percent of male orthopedic surgeons and 64 percent of female orthopedic surgeons report adequate savings.

 

How the Bryan cervical disc faired after 10 years in China
A new study published in Spine examines 10-year follow-up for Bryan cervical disc arthroplasty patients in China. There were eight patients who presented with radiculopathy and 25 patients with myelopathy. The range of motion at the operated level was 7.8 degrees at baseline and 4.7 degrees at the follow-up.

 

Stryker's 2015 net earnings soar 100%; Net sales reach $9.9B
Stryker reported strong organic net sales in 2015 as well as a net sales increase in the fourth quarter. Sales in the United States were up 8.4 percent to $7.1 billion. International sales fell, however, 6.9 percent to $2.8 billion in the fourth quarter. The reported net earnings increased 100.8 percent in the fourth quarter, hitting $522 million, and 179 percent in the full year, reaching $1.4 billion.

A new article published in Spine examines four randomized controlled clinical trials included in the Yale University Open Data Access Project on recombinant bone morphogenetic protein-2. The researchers concluded radiographic fusion was clinically significant because the patients reported better outcomes at one or two years after surgery.
