Question: Which movie has influenced you the most, personally or professionally?

Dr. Brian Gantwerker: The movie that has influenced me the most is "Awakenings." Dr. Oliver Sacks had a lot to do with my desire to go into medicine. "Awakenings" was the miraculous story of a doctor who lived to help his patients. When he finally figured out how to restore their movement, and they went to the beach, I remember how much joy Robin Williams' [as the fictionalized version of Dr. Sacks] showed. I think it really showcased how we feel when our patients leave our office feeling better. It also showed how heartbreaking it can be when, despite our best efforts, the patient falters. The movie gave a glimpse into the emptiness and sadness we all feel when we have done our best and it is still not enough.
