Spine

The neurosurgery department at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles is offering tele-consultations for patients all over the world, according to a Canyon News report.

Here are four observations:

1. The new program allows patients to connect virtually with specialists at Cedars-Sinai. The patient only requires a computer, an internet connection as well as a webcam with a microphone or a cell phone.

2. The consultation could be for a routine follow-up appointment, a postoperative follow-up or to review imaging tests.

3. According to Keith L. Black, MD, department chairman and professor of neurosurgery, the department often receives requests for consultations from patients worldwide and the program gives Cedars-Sinai specialists a chance to connect with these patients.

4. Cedars-Sinai's neurosurgery department was ranked as one of the best in the country in U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals 2014-2015 list.
