United Regional acquires robotic spine system — 5 key notes

Spine

United Regional hospital in Texas acquired the Mazor Renaissance robotic spine surgery system.

Here are five things to know:

1. United Regional is among the 50 hospitals in the United States to have the technology, which is designed for more precise spine procedures.

2. The technology is validated to ensure a 1.5 mm accuracy in pedicle screw placement when compared with freehand spine surgery.

3. Renaissance includes three-dimensional planning software before surgery to create a unique surgical blueprint for each patient. There is no need for additional X-rays during surgery, which means less exposure to radiation.

4. There have been more than 10,000 cases performed using the Renaissance system.

5. The company has sold systems in the United States and Europe. Mazor is based in Israel.

"We found this robotic surgical guidance system to be safer and more accurate for minimally invasive technology for spine procedures, said John Reeves, MD, a neurosurgeon at United Regional.
