Texas Children's Hospital names Dr. John Dormans orthopedics chief: 6 things to know

Texas Children's Hospital in Houston named John Dormans, MD, the new chief of orthopedics.

Here are six things to know:

 

1. Dr. Dormans will also serve as a professor of orthopedic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.

 

2. He previously served as chief of orthopedic surgery at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as well as president of the medical staff and president of Children's Surgical Associates, the CHOP surgical group.

 

3. He focuses on pediatric spinal deformity and musculoskeletal tumors.  

 

4. He has published more than 340 articles, authored more than 140 chapters and written five books.

 

5. Dr. Dormans completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Grand Rapids Michigan State University as well as a clinical pediatric orthopedic fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada.

 

6. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America and Scoliosis Research Society.
