5 things to know about Dr. Christopher Shaffrey, new AANS secretary

Christopher Shaffrey, MD, was named the American Association of Neurological Surgeons secretary for 2015 to 2016, according to a Newswise report.

Here are five things to know about Dr. Shaffrey:


1. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia and completed his neurosurgical and orthopedics residencies at the University of Virginia.


2. Dr. Shaffrey underwent a pediatric and adult reconstructive spine surgery fellowship before joining the neurological surgery and orthopedic surgery department at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.


3. He was named the Harrison Distinguished Teaching Professor of Neurological and Orthopedic Surgery in 2008.


4. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Shaffrey has more than 100 publications and 500 national and international presentations.


5. He also has experience as an adjunct associate professor of orthopedic surgery and sports medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle.
