Just 20 minutes of light daily exercise can drastically lower the risk back pain in the morbidly obese, according to a recent study. Morbidly obese people are four-times as likely to suffer from back pain as those not obese. The U.S. study looked at 6,796 adults and found 20 minutes per day of moderate exercise, such as brisk walking or riding a bike, can reduce back pain rick by 32 percent.

The study, titled "Does Physical Activity Influence the Relationship Between Low Back Pain and Obesity?" won the 2013 outstanding paper award from The Spine Journal. The research was presented at the North American Spine Society's 28th Annual Meeting in New Orleans this week.
