Dr. Alexander Vaccro Receives NASS's 2010 Leon Wiltse Award

Alexander Vaccaro, MD, PhD, the spine chief at Philadelphia's Rothman Institute, received the 2010 Leon Wiltse Award for excellence in leadership and clinical research by the North American Spine Society, according to a Citybizlist news release.

Dr. Vaccaro received his medical degree as well as his doctorate in spinal trauma from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is currently the vice chairman of the department of orthopedics at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia as well as co-director of the Regional Spinal Cord Injury Center of the Delaware Valley.

Dr. Vaccaro's research interests include the timing of surgery after traumatic spinal cord injury, using alternative bone graft substitutes in spinal surgery and developing spinal implants for traumatic and degenerative spinal disorders.
