Orthopedic surgeon Nick Nenadovich, MD, has completed the first endoscopic implantation of Intrinsic Therapeutics’ Barricaid annular closure device in the Great Lakes region.

Dr. Nenadovich of Chesterton, Ind.-based Lakeshore Bone & Joint Institute performed the procedure to treat a herniated disc using Amplify Surgical’s dualPortal endoscopic approach, which is designed to streamline adoption of minimally invasive spine techniques. The Barricaid device is used to reduce the risk of recurrent disc herniation following lumbar discectomy, according to a Nov. 14 news release.

The combination of an endoscopic approach with the Barricaid implant offers less postoperative discomfort and more durable relief of sciatic pain symptoms, according to the release.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
