HSS names Dr. Joel Press new physiatrist-in-chief: 5 things to know

New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery appointed Joel Press, MD, the department of physiatry chairman and physiatrist-in-chief, effective September 2016.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. The hospital’s physiatry department offers comprehensive, non-operative care to patients with spinal and sports-related injures.

 

2. Joseph Feinberg, MD, currently serves as physiatrist-in-chief, and will continue to work closely with Dr. Press when he takes over the position.

 

3. Dr. Press currently serves as medical director of the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago’s Spine & Sports Rehabilitation Center.

 

4. After earning his medical degree from University of Illinois, Dr. Press completed his residency at Northwestern University in Chicago.

 

5. “Dr. Press brings strong leadership skills and has vast experience in leading clinical and academic physical medicine and rehabilitation that will take our physiatry service and care of all musculoskeletal conditions to the next level,” said Louis A. Shapiro, president and CEO, HSS.
