The team of surgeons was led by neurosurgeon Muwaffak Abdulhak, MD, according to a Sept. 17 news release.
Augmented reality and OnPoint’s system superimposes surgical guides and virtual implants onto the patient using see-through display technology.
The technology is an alternative to robotic assistance and fluoroscopy, which uses a continuous X-ray beam to create real-time video images.
Using AR spine systems can lead to higher accuracy compared to existing surgery methods, the release said.
