Reidsville, Ga.-based Optim Medical Center-Tattnall has launched an anterior lumbar interbody fusion program at its Spine Center of Excellence, according to a Sept. 12 new release.

The program combines the well-established ALIF surgical approach with a spinal navigation platform that integrates preoperative planning and real-time intraoperative guidance. Optim is the first hospital in the southeast U.S. to combine the technologies under a unified surgical platform.

ALIF is performed through a small incision in the abdomen to remove a damaged disc and restore stability. By approaching the spine from the front, surgeons avoid moving back muscles and nerves, which may reduce blood loss, postoperative pain and allow for larger implant placement.

“This program reflects our commitment to pairing proven techniques with the best tools available so patients can get back to life with less pain,” Melanie Fitzgibbon, chief administrative officer at Optim Medical Center-Tattnall, said in the release.

The navigation platform provides high-quality, 3D visualization and real-time feedback to support precise implant placement and consistent execution of the surgical plan.
