Researchers examined 69 patients undergoing treatment for lumbar degenerative disc disease. They extracted DNA from the patients’ blood sample and performed an analysis of the GCH1. Researchers found that patients with the 1 SNP were significantly associated with an improved ODI score and less back pain following surgery.
