Three things to know:
1. The Iowa City VA hired John Henry Schneider, MD, in 2017. The neurosurgeon had previously had his license revoked in Wyoming due to “poor patient care,” violating a law that states physicians with their licenses revoked in one state are not eligible to work for the VA.
2. Dr. Schneider operated on a veteran during his time in Iowa City, who allegedly died due to complications from the procedure. Dr. Schneider resigned from his post shortly thereafter.
3. During the hiring process, Dr. Schneider disclosed his licensure history to the Iowa City VA, noting that although his license was revoked in Wyoming, he maintained a medical license in Montana. The Iowa City VA hired him anyway.
