Florida governor names neurosurgeon to university board of trustees

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has appointed Andrew Shaw, MD, to the Florida State College at Jacksonville district board of trustees, according to a July 12 news release.

Dr. Shaw is a neurosurgeon at Lyerly Neurosurgery at Baptist Health in Jacksonville who specializes in complex spine surgery, spinal oncology and spinal tumors, among other conditions.

He previously practiced at Ocala (Fla.) Health Neurosurgery and Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, and is a member of the American Board of Neurological Surgery, American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the National Association of Spine Surgeons.

Dr. Shaw will succeed Tom Majdanics, a trustee since 2013.

The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Florida Senate.
