Spinal surgeon Arthur Steffee, MD, referred to in a Cleveland Clinic article as the “father of modern spine surgery,” has died at 90, according to an Aug. 17th report from the Cranberry Eagle.
Dr. Steffee died on Aug. 16, just days before his planned 90th birthday party. In 1984, Dr. Steffee founded AcroMed, a company specializing in spinal implants.
He designed and patented many orthopedic tools and began Steffee Orthopedics, which later became Horizon Orthopedics.
Dr. Steffee died as a result of a fall from a ladder, according to the report.
