There were 82 patients who underwent spinal fusion and were randomized into identical protocol of four group-based sessions for rehabilitation. Outcomes and cost-effectiveness were reported.
The researchers found the fast-track rehabilitation patients were costlier and reported significantly poorer functional disability outcomes. The patients in the rehabilitation program six weeks after spine surgery also reported reduced gain in quality-adjusted life years.
