European Stem Cell Therapy Fails Peyton Manning, Prompts Recent Spine Surgery

Before undergoing an anterior cervical discectomy, performed by Robert Watkins Sr., MD, and Robert Watkins Jr., MD, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning traveled to Europe for a stem cell procedure not available in the United States, according to a report form the Daily Main Reporter.

The stem cell therapy involves culturing fat cells harvested from his body and then injecting them back into the neck with the hope of regenerating damaged nerves. The stem cell therapy was unsuccessful, which is why Mr. Manning underwent his third cervical spine procedure in the past 19 months, which could cause him to miss the entire 2011 football season.
