Tampa, Fla.-based Joseph Spine’s Samuel Joseph, MD, and Andrew Moulton, MD, traveled to the Dominican Republic with other surgeons in early February to perform several spinal surgeries.

What you should know:

1. The group performed four to five surgeries a day on the trip. They performed a total of 23 scoliosis and kyphosis cases on the trip.

2. In addition, the group screened patients and gave several educational lectures to residents.

3. Dr. Joseph said, “It felt amazing to have a direct effect on a child’s life and not only improve their appearance but improve their quality of life and life expectancy.”
