The American Association of Neurological Surgeons appointed Frederick A. Boop, MD, of Memphis-based University of Tennessee Health Science Center, its new president.

 

Howard L. Weiner, MD, will serve as Houston-based Texas Children’s Hospital’s new chief of neurosurgery.

 

The International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine awarded Swiss-Canadian spine surgeon Max Aebi, MD, the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award.

 

Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine named Alan R. Cohen, MD, the new chief of pediatric neurosurgery.

 

Neurosurgeon Peter Sun, MD, is the first recipient of University of California San Francisco Benioff Children’s Oakland’s John S. and Sherry H. Chen Endowed Chair in Clinical Neurosurgery.

 

ICNA Relief USA presented neurosurgeon Saeed Bajwa, MD, of Southern New York NeuroSurgical Group in Johnston City, N.Y., with the ICNA Relief USA Award of Appreciation. Dr. Bajwa was also added to the Leading Physicians of the World and was appointed Wilson Medical Center’s director of neurosciences, as well.

 

Neurosurgeon Sanjay Gupta, MD, of Atlanta-based Emory Clinic, ranks as the second most popular physician on Twitter in the United States, with more than 2 million followers.
